SuperTroop holidays hard to improve!

We’re delighted to share the results of an independent service evaluation and Care Inspectorate visit, both completed last year.

The Care Inspectorate rated our 2024 holiday as Very Good in four out of five areas evaluated - representing “major strengths” in how we support children and young people, in our staff team, in our setting and in our planning of care. We were also rated as Good for leadership, and the team are working on a few areas of improvement to raise this rating next time. Importantly, none of these improvements were judged as negatively impacting holiday-makers’ experiences on the week.

Also last year, we completed our own service evaluation, commissioned with funding from Better Breaks, to allow us to step back and reflect on our provision. The service evaluation had two main components. First, finding out how needed SuperTroop is as a holiday provider in Scotland. On this front our report revealed that hundreds if not thousands of young people in Scotland need services like ours, and identified only one other provider giving a similar sort of residential holiday service. In other words, SuperTroop is very badly needed indeed.

The other half of the service evaluation was to engage with various stakeholders in the charity - our holiday-makers and their families, our volunteers and various other groups of people who support what we do. Across the board, the evaluator found it challenging to extract feedback relating to improvements and a majority of recommendations from the report relating to commitments to keep doing what we’re doing! Positive demonstrations of the transformational influence of SuperTroop abound in quotes like “Such a happy lovely space, filled with smiling people and plenty of games and toys” and “[the Helpers’] enthusiasm and energy was just incredible”

Congratulations to our incredible volunteers for delivering such excellent outcomes! This recognition is so well deserved.
